Jasper—ORIGIN: Medieval English jaspre, from Old French; from Latin
iaspis.
Physical properties of Jasper: A form of chalcedony, jasper is
found throughout the world and is identified by its markings and coloration.
Among its many names are ocean jasper, fancy jasper, tiger jasper, leopard
jasper, and imperial jasper. During its crea-tion some forms of jasper combine
with other stones. Brecciated jasper combines broken and fragmented red
jasper, stitched together by quartz crystals. Tiger iron jasper is formed
through a combination of red jasper, hematite and tiger eye.
Symbolic properties of Jasper: a nurturing stone that helps one stay
grounded to the earth and provides protection as a shield against negativity.
